Our school purchased new uniforms this year and we went with a black contrast color instead of the usual white. The girls think that it looks more “intimidating” and I think that they are right. They look sharp. I also think that the trend is going back to pants from shorts. We have both for our travel team but the girls prefered the pants, even in the heat, for better protection when sliding, etc.

  2. carol Says:

Our school colors are Maroon and grey. We have grey pants with maroon pin stripes, Maroon top, a classic look. I glad the trend is going back to pants a little. We play on some rough fields and our early season can be pretty cold here in Michigan.

  3. Kirsten Says:

I like the sleeveless shirts because it’s easier to pitch in. But, for the cold spring seasaon or late fall ball, I wear lots of UnderArmour – including long tights. Even though I look like I’m about to go scuba diving instead of play softball, that’s the only way I can survive a long weekend of cold softball in IL!

  4. Hokie22 Says:

Uniforms are a topic are our league decision lately. Many teams are leaving the shorts and going back to long pants. I must agree that long pants are the way to go. The look it more professional and you really look like your the team to beat.

  5. Donna Says:

Our little league teams and high school teams have worn shorts for a long time. It’s okay as long as you have sliding shorts and pads but it would be nice if we could afford to have both, some for cool and hot weather. Our little league uniforms were navy blue with columbia blue lettering on racerback shirts and they did look really nice.
You just have to make sure you have some matching underarmor for those cold evenings.

  6. Ashley Rhodes Says:

The shorts, especially mesh or moisture wicking fabric, are cooler, but I prefer pants. There is a lot more protection for the legs while sliding. They are also really good to have during the early part of the year, and for fall ball. For a shirt, Underarmour uniform shirts are great. Royal blue and orange look good together. Green, white and black go together good, also. Yellow and blue, with a touch of black looks pretty sharp.

  7. Kelly LaCroix Says:

We had a dry fit material, not as dense as under armor, but it definitly kept us cool because the material was very porous. Short sleeves keep the coolest because it alows air to run through the cuffs through your back. Pants can go either way with shorts, some people say pants are cooler because they don’t have to wear spandex. The best colors that i have seem that really stick out nicely is a black shirt with bright orange writing.

  8. Chris Roper Says:

Our team recently purchased new uniforms made by Saxson. They are shorts and no sleeve shirts. The unique thing about them is that they are a new technology and the numbers, lettering and logo are all a part of the fabric which means they don’t wear off. They are black with white and baby blue contrasts and a red maple leaf on the back. Easily the best looking team in BC.

  9. Coach kevin Says:

Our girls(14&U)have switched to pants for the last 3 years and the number of injuries (strawberries) have decreased. We are from Texas and the heat doesn’t bother them.

  10. Jeff Says:

We are located in the Northeas and it can be darn cold in March. Our high school team switched from shorts to pants a couple years ago. They weren’t too happy at first, but quickly got over it with the decrease in scraped up knees. Most didn’t need to wear a slider anymore which caused a problem in that they still wore shorts to practice and then didn’t have a slider with them. Colors were nothing special – blue and gold

  11. Keely Says:

For our college team just bought new uniforms this past season. They are dazzle cloth, sleeveless, and shorts. I was worried about the material, but it has held up well over the season, especially with the girls that do alot of sliding. Even though it is cool in the spring in Ohio, the girls love the shorts. The colors are Dark Green/White/gold. They look great and just as good with a Black under armour shirt. Very sharp!

  12. brittney Says:

I use almost like a mesh jersey and its great nice and cool when playing and it doesn’t stick to you. My colors are the blue and gold(school colors)I like no sleeves with under Armour. Because I’m a catcher i like pants so my straps do rub against my skin.

  13. Ashley Rhodes Says:

My girls this year had mesh, sleeveless shirts. They were very lightweight and very cool. Air flowed easily through them to keep them cool.

  14. Doug Clarke Says:

We bought this year all new uniforms
    1) was a dress uniform which is red and grey. it is a russell dri-power with short sleeves. The girls love the look (very sharp) tackle twill lettering and numbers along with grey Mizuno womens fit pants but the girls did not want to wear them in the heat night games and early spring is when we wore them the most.
    2) were black top and a white top razor back cotton uniforms we wore these the most because they were in there mind cooler. we paid like $9.00 each for them and the girls seemed to like them. Since we wore these most of the time. we wore these with black bike coaching shorts.
The problem is we spent alot of money on nice uniforms and having them want to wear the very inexpensive uniforms most of the time is it worth spending the money??

This is a sample of what our 9-10 year old regular season uniforms looked like except the blue in real life was a little darker. The material was just a little shiny. The girls really liked it.

  16. Alygia Lopez Says:

Our travel teams uniforms consist of sleeveless shirt and shorts of which are extremely heavy. It is like a double layer of material and very well constructed but our girls hate how heavy and hot they are…not to mention expensive. When we were at Nationals we got to see a variety of uniforms and the uniform all our girls agreed on was the mesh sleeveless. Yes it is see through but they can wear a contrasting tank top underneath and it looked really sharp. As for pants, we had new pants this year and the girls only wore them twice.

  17. Mayble Watson Says:

We went to the Racer back sleeveless shirts and have went back to the long pants. It seems that the girls are more likely to slide if they need to with the longer pants.

  18. CH Says:

For pants, we had a sponsor purchase Easton girls softball pants that had the built in compression short. The girls were so happy to not have to wear the hand me down boys style pants this season.

For uniform colors, the one that always stands out that I think is the neatest is the fluorescent lime green with black – complement these with matching green socks and this really makes for a sharp uniform.

  19. Tina Says:

Our Elite summer team had 3 different uniforms this year. with a 99 game schedule the parents really liked not having to do laundry every night! The girls favorite “lucky” uniforms were navy, white and columbia blue racer back. They were the “lucky” uniforms because they never lost a game when wearing them!!! The other uniforms were white racer back shirts with red shorts and a royal blue and gold set. My personal favorite was the navy and columbia but I thought the white and red was pretty sharp too!

  20. Roseann Says:

Our 14U Elite team uses the Columbia Blue/Black/White combination. We wear blue on Saturdays and Black on Sundays. Our uniforms are short sleeve with shorts and are made out of a premium moisture wicking fabric. We provided sweatshirts and sweatpants for those cold Northeast tournaments played in April and November when we are likely to see a snow flurry or two! No racerbacks for us, we don’t want our girls getting their shoulders too sunburned. Only downside to the uniforms is that the fabric is prone to developing pulls so it needs to be dealt with a bit carefully. Saw a comment about the mesh being see-through. This was not the case with our uniforms. Most are not see-through so this should not be a concern.

  21. TJ Says:

Our travel team was looking into the traditional sleeved button down jersey for the girls. I was concerned because though they do look sharp it just didn’t look comfortable especially for the pitchers. Thank goodness they were way to expensive and we stuck to the Racer Back Jersey’s which my pitchers like. They don’t mind the under armor when they pitch, they just don’t want a sleeved shirt flapping. Our team also decided on the long pants. I agree the girls will slide with no thought a lot more in pants then they will in shorts. I really think Pants look sharp. Most of our girls love the Intensity style pant. It really fits a girls figure well. TJ

  22. Vanessa Mitchell Says:

In SA we have been wearing the shorts more often. But the ladies prefer the long pants since it gives more protection when sliding and you don’t get a softball tan from the hot African sun.
    Vanessa

  23. Matt Says:

I definitely believe the sleeveless jersey is nice and keeps the girls arms free to throw. When it gets cold they need to add some Under Armor, but it is better for the majority of the playing season.

  24. Coach K Says:

The team colors are black, columbia blue, and white. We wear racer back tops with Under Armour underneath. We have black pants and shorts. And the most important item are the sliders and shin pads!

  25. C. Berouty Says:

PANTS, PANTS, PANTS! Wear pants – I think the players go all out more often when they have pants on.

  26. Karen Says:

When I first had to choose uniforms for my team I wanted Racer Backs….as did the girls. But starting out with a 10U team that style of shirt just wasn’t well suited to our growing girls (and I stress the girl statement :) ) I found High Five had an excellent jersey that looked great with the girls and had an off setting jersey for the separate uniform. Thanks!

  27. Diamond Dave Says:

I like long pants, especially in the Fall & Winter here in teh Mid-West (Illinois).

I alos like a sleeve less jersey that you can waer underarmour with. It is flexable for the pictherss and catchers espacilaly. Buttoned down looks good, but the ladies seem to not like the buttons. No sleeves makes then look and feel tough(er).

The kids don’t seem to like the visors these days, adn we make it optional.

My players waer knee pads on at least one leg, some two pads, not so much for sliding by hit by pitches.

I am seeing more and more face masks on picthers, 1B & 3B, adn my short stop waers a mask after taking a shot beow the eye. Scary.

I like black or blue with red and white as my chief colours.

  28. Joe Anderson Says:

Pokadot socks were big this year. By the end of the year , every team either had them or wanted them. I could have made a killing selling those socks.

  29. patti Says:

Our girls like racerback shirts in a wicking fabric. Shorts seem to be the preferred bottoms.

  30. red john Says:

Trying to talk the players into pants, but not having much luck.

  31. Chris Says:

I can’t stand the racerback jerseys. Most of the best-looking uniforms are in racerbacks, but my 12U girls don’t need them cut that far back. It makes my girls have to wear a shirt underneath these jerseys.

I am a proponent of pants over shorts. There is less hesitation from the girls to get dirty.

  32. Amanda Goulart Says:

We have some really nice black ones with dark green writing. The jerseys are sleveless but it is made out of baseball jersey material, and it has white piping. With black pants and white piping. Looks nice wiht underarmor too.

  33. Brian Getz Says:

Has anyone seen the “NEW” uniforms that Russell is selling? Nickers! They look so weird! I hope no one purchases them.

  34. Loa Kay Bowrhorpe Says:

I like Russell Uniforms for their durability and they never lose their color, My teams are comfortable in them, they are attractive and I can find the colors that my school and team like. Russell is constructed well and I have found the company and reps a joy to work with on anything I need

  35. Matt Sawyer Says:

DIRTY UNIFORMS – I like to see any uniform that is worn and dirty at the end of the game. If they are dirty it tells me they are trying and playing with heart. They’re diving for balls and sliding hard into bases.

  36. Kendra Walters Says:

Our high school team is about the only team in the area still wearing shorts….in Indiana….burr!!!! I would love to see hour team go back to the pin stripe pants for high school ball. Our colors are Red & Green so we look like we are in the “Holiday” spirit in the Spring….LOL…GO INDIANS!!! My 18U travel team wears shorts, and we have 5 different outfits, which I think is kinda cool. We tend to throw teams off a bit with so many different looks. I prefer the razor back cut of the shirt, but our team does not have that and it makes for a little adjusting when I am on the mound.

  37. Bobby Says:

We have white pants with maroon & Black button down tops and and maroon under armour when their clean they look very sharp. Keeping white pants clean is very hard something about field dirt thats very hard to get clean.

  38. Kathy Turpin Says:

I think that a professional sports look gives the appearance you mean business on the field. It seems that sometimes the girls look more ready for a pajama party rather than to play fastpitch ball.

  39. Coach Dale Says:

Being from Arizona you would think our girls would want to wear shorts? I coach Club and High School and all of the girls on my teams do NOT like shorts. They refuse to wear them even in practice. They like the look better and feel more confident when sliding or diving, both on offense and defense.

  40. Kristen Says:

My team has two sets of uniforms. They are both racerback jerseys and shorts. We are navy, silver, and white. One uniform is silver with a white stripe down the side and navy pawprints (we are the lady lions) up the stripe. The other is navy with white stripe and silver pawprints up the stripe.

  41. john Says:

our girls 9/10 and 11/12 all-star teams both wore pants. several of the teams they played against wore shorts. after watching several different games with various umpires i am convinced our players got more low strikes called on them because the pants give a different image to the umpire. having done some umpiring i don’t believe this was intentional, just the result of a different image from behind the plate. as someone once said, just because i’m paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get me. next year i think we’ll wear shorts.

  42. Mark Says:

We have 2 uniforms and pants that go with each. This cuts back on laundry for back to back tournament days. I think they look more intimidating in the pants.

  43. Kirsten Anne Says:

We live in northwestern WI, so the girls play in long pants, which they are more comfortable in sliding/diving etc in. We do have racer back tops that look awesome. The girls look put together as a team and with 12-13 year old girls that is important to them.

  44. Coach Tina Says:

Well, as a coach I must agree on long pants. For me it’s an safety issue and the girls tend to slide more with long pants on. As for our uniform, I liked it. It was something way out there and not used to, but like it quickly. We had maroon pants with white/columbia stripes down the legs. Our shirts were the basic style maroon shortsleeve with black under armour. However, we changes it up for summer and used a columbia blue t-shirt because the season was really short and we had a bunch of new players. They looked AWESOME!

  45. carrieann Says:

My high school team’s uniform is kind of like a basketball jersey but it looks real nice and feels comftorable. it’s always hot so the air holes (or whatever they’re called) help keep us cool. With it comes shorts, and i’m not a big shorts fan) but these are nice. Plus the shirt and shorts are reversible. One side is Red with black writting and the other side is Black with red writting and they both look awsome. Plus they’re real easy to clean!!! :)

  46. Kathleen Dixon Says:

Our organizatiom uses Alleson Athletic unforms (Black set and a red set) 553W Women’s Softball racerback sleeveless(dazzle fabric) along with Speedline pants(drawstring low rise knicker length) that are used sometimes instead of shorts. We also use pear sox since the all sports style stays up well. My daughter has used moisture mgmt fabric styles in the past, but they aren’t much cooler, and they snag on the bat bag’s velcro too easily.

  47. Kristi Says:

our team colors are black and orange nice together. I think the cap sleeves are great because the girls don’t have to buy the racer back bras. Parents have to fork out enuf $$. W/out having to buy special under garments too! Just my $.02.

  48. Tony Scarbrough Says:

Comfort and cool are primary considerations. We play in the deep south Mobile, AL and cool is important especially later in the season. We wear long pants mostly for the protection when sliding, but also have shorts for those hot days. Soft material and racer back jerseys are popular.

  49. Ed Says:

I think that I would have to agree with the pants. Our teams wear the shorts because of the temperatures hear in the Southeast. But I see many of the girls being tentative when sliding and diving in shorts. I believe the long pants would give the players more confidence when needing to make a slide.
